Plain version: the listings come from public records, we check a claim by ringing the business, and we do not sell anything about you.

Your information

Ernest Walters Ltd is the data controller for what is described here.

The profiles themselves are not information we collected from you. They are built from public records — the Food Standards Agency, Companies House and OpenStreetMap — and describe businesses, not people.

We hold personal information in three cases:

• If you claim a business. Your name, the phone number you give us, your email, and what you tell us about how you are connected to it. We use it to check the claim is genuine — which means ringing the business — and to let you manage the page afterwards. We keep it while the claim stands, so there is a record of who was verified and why.
• If you ask us to add a business. The same details, used to check it is real and to tell you when it is listed.
• If you sign in. Your email address, so we can send you a code. No password.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a directory that says true things about local businesses, and in confirming that somebody claiming a business really runs it. That check is what stops your page being taken by someone else.

We do not sell it, and we do not send marketing you did not ask for. It is held in our database (Supabase, in the EU), and email goes through our email provider. Nobody else receives it.

You can ask to see what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted — email the address above. If you are unhappy with how we handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
